Body

Dorothea Marie (Oberhaus) Anderson, 96, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024. Dorothea, known to her family and friends as Dort, was born to Alma and Otto Oberhaus on May 2, 1927, in Martin, Ohio, and grew up on a farm that she dearly loved. She married Charles “Andy” Anderson on June 22, 1946, at St. John Lutheran Church in Williston, Ohio. They built a house in Point Place in 1952, where they raised three sons, and she still lived there at the time of her death.

She was a member and taught Sunday School at Messiah Lutheran Church in Point Place. Dort was assistant den mother for Cub Scout Pack 123, where Andy was cubmaster, and also served as room mother at Kleis Elementary School. Dort and Andy loved traveling in their motorhome, throughout the United States, even as distant as Alaska. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for friends, family and neighbors. She was always a person who neighbors and friends could look to for help in time of need. Dort took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, who have fond memories of campouts in the motorhome when they were young. She also loved the time she shared with her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Charles (Laura) R. Anderson II of Toledo, Ronald (Kyla) Anderson of Melrose, Florida, and Daniel (Brenda) Anderson of Vermillion; grandchildren, Kristin Anderson (Kenneth Bernard), Julie (Alex) Gilson, Christopher Anderson and Troy (Stacy) Murphy; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Makenna Murphy, as well as Skyler, Keagan and Adilynn Gilson, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles (1925-2009); brothers, Robert Oberhaus (1925-2021), Leonard “Red” Oberhaus (1929-1998), and sisters, Betty Jane Strohmaier (1923-1999), Thelma Knapp (1939-2000) and Donjean Smith (1921-2022).

Visitation will be on Sunday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home in Genoa, followed by a celebration of life at the Ottawa County Conservation League, 20998 West Moline-Martin Road in Martin, beginning at 1 p.m., with light food and refreshments at 1:30.

The burial will take place at Allen Township Cemetery, 6400 North Martin-Williston Rd, Curtice, at 11 a.m., on Monday, April 29, for those who wish to attend. Online condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfu neralhomes.com.
